Looks like the causative mutation has been cloned: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20953787/ - probably worth a mention. --Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.252.16.121 (talk) 23:50, 11 March 2011 (UTC)

Ted Nude-Gent

The link to SGC Belfry Ted Nude-Gent is dead. Could someone update it to something relevant, perhaps an article on the subject? 128.235.242.53

Okay, done. I asked the lady who started the sphynx.nu site but she's been unable to provide the photos any more. So I pointed to an interview with Ted.
Also the site has changed ownership so I removed the other links to it.

It might also be worth adding the image http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/8/8f/Ted_Nude_Gent.jpg to the page somewhere...it's the image from the page "Dr Evil" (scroll down) and is of the hairless Mr Bigglesworth which is mentioned on this page SmUX 21:08, 20 June 2007 (UTC)

Harry Potter

When it says a sphynx was to star in Harry Potter, are we sure that we aren't confusing kinds of sphynx's. :) I don't remember any hairless cats in the books... --Eean 02:15, 12 January 2006 (UTC)

There wasn't a sphynx cat in the book, it was the sphinx they were referring to. I'm also not aware of ever seeing the cat used in any of the movies.Heath Buckmaster 01:55, 14 February 2007 (UTC)

There's something eerily beautiful about these pictures of Sphynx ...

Popular culture

Could someone point out any other instances where the Sphynx breed was in the movies or is Mr Bigglesworth the only one? Secondly, If anyone shows the Sphynx cats, could someone come up with an actual definition of medium sized as per the breed standard? 63.200.184.126 (talk) 18:20, 14 January 2008 (UTC) Sara http://www.aliencattery.com | Unknown-importance Cats articles

External link removed

Removed external link to www.angelsphynx.com (Sphynx Cats, about care and breed) - it's a non-English site, which English version is just a commercial breeder's self-promotion (User [whatever my IP is today]) --Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.64.103.172 (talk) 17:58, 11 October 2009 (UTC)

I just made an update to some content, and received the spamfilter message, and removed the vandvis link.Heath Buckmaster 01:55, 14 February 2007 (UTC)

The second picture covers up a small portion of the text. Nothing serious, just looks a little bad. Wib30 19:36, 24 October 2007 (UTC)bitch

I think it would be nice to add some information about the use of these cats in moves / TV such as in "Austin Powers" (The Dr.Evil's cat) and in "Friends" --Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.69.142.42 (talk) 20:15, 27 February 2009 (UTC)

Origin

I think this page needs more on the sphynx origin. I will be tring to make work on it in the next few days.--Talon (talk) 21:57, 17 July 2008 (UTC)

I need help the book I got the info from (4.(book) The new Encyclopedia of the Cat By: Bruce Fogle ISBN: 0789480212) well it wont let me make a References on it.--Talon (talk) 02:46, 18 July 2008 (UTC)

Well here is some more stuff i found on the net about the origin of this cat "In 1970 the Cat Fanciers' Association (CFA) granted provisional status to the "Canadian Hairless." The next year, however, CFA withdrew recognition due to the health problems and breeding difficulties. At the time, it was believed that the gene associated with hairlessness was lethal. That line became extinct.

The Sphynx as we know it today began in 1975, when Minnesota farm owners Milt and Ethelyn Pearson discovered a hairless kitten had been born to their normal-coated farm cat, Jezabelle. This kitten, appropriately named Epidermis, was joined the next year by another hairless kitten named Dermis. Both were sold to Oregon breeder Kim Mueske, who used the kittens to develop the breed. Minnesota breeder Georgiana Gattenby also worked with kittens from the Pearson line, using rex cats to widen and strengthen the gene pool. These lines proved to be healthy. The name "Sphynx" was chosen, named after the Great Sphinx of Giza." End Qoute, so yeah maybe you can do something with this --Preceding unsigned comment added by ChesterTheWorm (talk o contribs) 07:02, 10 September 2008 (UTC)

Is anyone else getting this?

At the top of this page, it says "The Wikipedia Community would like to wish Avril Lavigne a happy birthday!". I edited it to view the source, and it didn't even say "Avril Lavigne" once. And it happens only on this page.--dicttrshp 10:58, 28 September 2008 (UTC)

hi there!

hi

Sorry --

There must have been some lag in the server; the edit I reverted as "rvv" was not in fact vandalism. For some reason the vandalized version with File:Benedict Cumberbatch filming Sherlock cropped.jpg was showing as the default. 63.249.101.182 (talk) 20:32, 20 May 2012 (UTC)

Robust - what is the source?

The article claims "The Canadian Sphynx is recognized by cat fancy associations as being a healthy robust breed." But also states alot of health issues that seem to be rather common, so what is the source and also proof for this statement?--Inugami-bargho (talk) 19:28, 20 September 2012 (UTC)

breed or condition?

I don't think is a new breed is a condition of recesive genes -- Preceding unsigned comment added by 190.202.219.242 (talk) 12:06, 22 March 2015 (UTC)

The Rabbi's Cat

Is the cat featured in the animated movie, The Rabbi's Cat (comics) a sphynx? Jooojay (talk) 01:57, 21 January 2016 (UTC)

Sound file

I am not familiar with sound files, but I noticed when I play the video of the cat meowing, the sound is music instead. Perhaps this needs to be relinked? Jooojay (talk) 07:39, 1 February 2016 (UTC)

OR maybe this is just a new video? I find the sound is very distracting if that is the case. Jooojay (talk) 07:40, 1 February 2016 (UTC)

Harizotoh9, last time I checked we don't just delete huge chunks of cited material. Instead, we add clean up templates? Please explain why you think this was an appropriate approach to the issue. Jooojay (talk) 17:57, 14 October 2016 (UTC)

Moved to the talk page for later clean up - less "trivia-based" and instead turned into sentences/paragraphs with better citations. Jooojay (talk) 04:00, 31 October 2017 (UTC)
